VHS-C to HD digital or DVD

VHS-C is a somewhat less common format but was popular with those who had to carry their kit long distances as the small format made it considerably lighter. Introduced in 1982, the VHS-C had a short but productive lifetime. The format is similar to the standard VHS and many people used their standard VHS player with an adapter to play their VHS-C videos. We have specialist equipment to transfer these miniature VHS tapes either to HD digital or DVD format, as you prefer.

When we transfer VHS / S-VHS or VHS-C we return your original tapes to you, so you have them for your archive. We use only the highest quality transfer equipment to ensure you are delighted with the results.

Mini-DV transfer

The mini-DV arrived in 1995 and had a short-lived vogue, but many people found the length of the Mini-DV very impressive (either 60 minute, 90 minutes and some even 2 hours) and as a result, recorded many events. Mini-DV tapes can be transferred either to HD digital or DVD. We use a variety of equipment to transfer Mini-DV tapes to digital or DVD, including Sony, Canon and JVC machines.

Hi-8mm video transfer

The Video8 camera arrived in 1985, courtesy of Sony, and it was an instant hit with the average consumer, creating a wave of video use that extended to the commercial market. In 1999 Digital 8mm arrived and both formats can be transferred to HD digital or DVD depending on your requirements. Betamax video transfer

It was in 1975 that Betamax introduced their video format. Because Betamax lost the battle for consumers, being more expensive than VCR, there has been limited usage for Betamax ever since, but we are able to transfer those old Betamax tapes to either Digital HD or DVD so you can watch them again and again.

HD digital or DVD transfer?

Many clients like to have their video tapes transferred directly to HD digital and there are a couple of reasons that they may be finding this preferable:

1. Digital formats do not degrade or get damaged (fade, crack, scratch, bend) in the way that analogue video did.
2. Digital can be easily uploaded and shared.

It is purely a matter of preference, but digital is a lot more popular in this modern age and there is no doubt that whether you choose digital or DVD, you will find it far preferable to analogue, with its risk of damage both to the tapes and to the equipment that you watch them on, which is prone to needing regular cleaning and maintenance.

How do I package my videos for transfer to HD digital or DVD?

Please send your precious video tapes via Royal Mail, Recorded Delivery. We recommend using either a padded envelope / Jiffy bag or a cardboard box to safeguard your videos and wrapping them in bubble-wrap to ensure they are protected. What happens when I have sent my tapes in for transfer?

You can estimate the cost of your project by referring to our prices below. Once we have examined your video tapes, we will call you to discuss your transfer. Unless you have already sent in your payment with your project (cheques are made payable to “Rutland Productions”), we are happy for you to make a bank transfer (BACs payment). We can let you have our bank details either over the phone, or e-mail/text them directly to you.

If you have a problem working out the length and cost of your videos, we can help. Just send them in and we will go through them. We will then contact you with an exact price. We will not carry out any work on your project before we have costed it and in the unlikely event you are not happy with the price or any other reason, we will return your project back to you via recorded post – free of charge.

When we have completed the transfer of your videos, we will post the original tapes, along with your finished production back to you using recorded delivery, or you can call and collect the results yourself.
