Rutland Productions use “Flashscan” frame by frame scanning technology in their 9.5mm cine film to HD digital transfer, rather than the ‘projecting on to an old white screen and recording’ technique. Our professional process produces an extremely high-quality film transfer.

Our process eliminates the standard trademark ‘flicker’ that occurs when copying directly from a cine projector. We carry out all our transfers in-house using top-of-the-range computer systems and software and do not out-source to a third party. We always add our professional expertise, gained from more than 35 years’ creative experience.

Your project is handled with the utmost care throughout the transfer process and on completion all the original cine film, along with the finished HD digital, DVD or Blu-Ray production is returned to you via Royal Mail – Recorded Delivery.

Is 9.5mm cine film conversion to HD digital, DVD or Blu-Ray safe?

Unlike other systems, our conversion process does not damage your film. We handle every project with the utmost care throughout the transfer and return the original film back to you, along with your professional transferred films as HD digital files, on DVD or supplied as a Blu-Ray production. (Your digital films are supplied as 1080HD AVI and 1080HD MP4 files saved on either a USB memory stick or an external hard-drive device).

This technique of cine film to digital production is not universal – many companies use the projector method and their clients are often disappointed with the 9.5mm cine film transfer results. What is worse, their failure to handle the film professionally during the transfer can lead to damage that we must work harder to rectify, when their disappointed clients then ask us to transfer their 9.5mm cine film, in a way that they can enjoy watching.

We only use high quality, German manufactured, Flashscan units for all our scanning and this is carried out in-house. We do not out-source to a third party.

So why not just transfer your 9.5mm cine films yourself?

Converting 9.5mm film to HD digital can be done two ways. One way is to copy direct from a projector by aiming a video camera at the screen, which will give a grainy, inferior quality transfer. This ‘projecting on to a white screen and recording’ method will also create the trademark ‘flicker’ that usually occurs when copying directly from an old cine projector.

The other way is to use high quality equipment for the 9.5mm cine film transfer costing tens of thousands of pounds – this is our process. How do I package my 9.5mm cine film for transfer to HD digital, DVD or Blu-Ray disk?

Please send your precious 9.5mm cine film reels via Royal Mail Recorded Delivery. We recommend using either a padded envelope / Jiffy bag or a cardboard box to safeguard your cine films and wrapping them in bubble-wrap to ensure they are protected. What happens when I have sent my 9.5mm cine film for transfer?

Once we have examined your films, we will call you to discuss your transfer. Unless you have already sent in your payment with your project (cheques are made payable to “Rutland Productions”), we are happy for you to make a bank transfer (BACs payment). We can let you have our bank details either over the phone, or e-mail/text them directly to you.

If you have a problem working out the length and cost of your cine film reels, we can help. Just send them in and we will go through them. We will then contact you with an exact price. We will not carry out any work on your project before we have costed it and in the unlikely event you are not happy with the price or any other reason, we will return your project back to you via recorded post – free of charge.

When we have completed the transfer of your cine film, we will post the original films, along with your finished production back to you using recorded delivery, or you can call and collect the results yourself. Alternatively, we will work with you to find any other collection method that suits you better. For overseas customers, please call to discuss shipping costs with one of our team.
